At the end of 2019, the global silicon wafer effective production capacity was about 185.3GW, and the output was about 138.3GW, a year-on-year increase of 20.3%, and continued to maintain a rapid growth trend.
From the perspective of production layout, the production capacity of mainland China in 2019 is about 173.7GW, accounting for 93.7% of the world, and the industrial layout is further concentrated in mainland China.
From the perspective of product types, the increase in the capacity of silicon wafers in 2019 is mainly based on the expansion of monocrystalline silicon wafers. Its production capacity reached 117.4GW, an increase of 62.8% year-on-year; the production capacity of polycrystalline silicon wafers was 67.9GW, a decrease of 23.8% year-on-year. .
From the perspective of production enterprises, while the production capacity expansion of first-tier enterprises in 2019, some domestic and foreign enterprises have ceased production or announced their withdrawal from the silicon wafer business, which has exacerbated the trend of enterprise differentiation and further increased the industrial concentration. In 2019, the total production capacity of the top ten silicon wafer enterprises in the world reached 157.3GW, accounting for about 85.4% of the global total production capacity; the output was 126.7GW, accounting for 91.6% of the global total production, an increase of 10.5 percentage points year-on-year. All enterprises are Chinese enterprises.
2. Development characteristics of silicon wafer industry
In 2019, under the dual effects of increased external demand and endogenous product competitiveness, the single-poly silicon wafer industry is clearly differentiated at two levels. In terms of production capacity, the production capacity of monocrystalline silicon wafers has expanded rapidly, and the production capacity of polycrystalline silicon wafers has accelerated. The top three monocrystalline silicon wafer companies Longji, Zhonghuan, and Jinko continue to increase the capacity layout of monocrystalline silicon wafers. At the same time, there are also non-traditional monocrystalline enterprises that continue to enter the monocrystalline silicon wafer market, such as CNC, Beijing Express.
Since 2018, enterprises have released silicon wafers of different sizes such as 157mm, 158.75mm, 161mm, 163mm, 166mm, 210mm, etc., by directly increasing the silicon wafer area, enlarging the size of components, and thinning the processing cost of each link. The 160-166mm size has occupied a certain market share in 2019. Since the 210mm size was released in August 2019, downstream production line companies Ai Xu Technology, Trina Solar, Dongfang Risheng, etc. have also gradually invested in large-scale production. Jiejia Equipment companies such as Flextronics and Mavericks are also announcing equipment progress.
3. Development trend of silicon wafer industry
It is estimated that in 2020, the head enterprises will continue to expand production, and the industry will further integrate. The competition pattern of the silicon link has been basically clear; driven by the dual factors of “cost reduction” + “efficiency improvement”, “large size” + “thinness” “It has become the main development direction of the silicon wafer link; in order to meet the needs of the downstream cell and component links during the technical integration period, the silicon wafer link has developed toward a diversified and refined trend.
